BIOGRAPHY

Richard Combes is a contemporary painter who has been painting for over thirty years. He was born in Manchester and grew up in Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. He originally trained as an architect, graduating from the University Of Liverpool in 1989. In 1993 he moved to New York City to study for an MFA at the New York Academy of Art, graduating in 1995. He subsequently made New York City his home and has used it to inspire much of his paintings since.

Through a meticulous rendering of detail and dramatic use of perspective and color, Combes explores architectural spaces creating empty sometimes haunting images.

Combes became a full member of the Royal Institute of Painters London in 2004. His work has been exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy, and Mall Galleries in London. He has paintings in many private collections internationally. Combes’ work has been reviewed in art magazines and other publications. He is currently represented by Gallery Henoch in New York City.
